I obtained my PhD in Clinical Psychology from Kent State University. I have been a licensed psychologist since 1994, working for nearly 20 years for a health maintenance organization. Prior to my graduate training in psychology, I also worked at an inner city mental health center for close to 6 years. I am delighted to have been in private practice with my colleagues at Memory & Psychological Services for over five years now.
My approach to psychotherapy:
I do not believe that there is any one approach that is best for everyone. This is why my first goal is to understand - so that, together, we can tailor treatment to you as an individual.
I have training and experience in cognitive behavioral, insight-oriented and mindfulness-based therapies. I am trained in EMDR and hypnosis though I use them sparingly. I tend to blend a variety of approaches.
I believe that humor and creativity can play an important role in the healing process. I also welcome the integration of spirituality and psychotherapy for patients who have this interest.
Let's get started...
Seed of Hope #3: Some realities of life I cannot change. However, I am always free to change how I respond to them.
Of course we cannot begin therapy until we meet. However, I am including for you a 5 minute reflection on the topic of hope (Click on the "play" arrow in the lower left hand corner.) May it help you nurture in yourself some sense of hopefulness with whatever troubles you face. Please call me or e-mail if you would like to be in touch.
